Methodology

The methodology distinguishes general phrenological/anatomical search terms from three tiers of specific phrenological terms. Specific phrenological terms are taken from: Spurzheim, Physiognomical System of Drs. Gall and Spurzheim (1815, first and second editions); De Ville, Manual of Phrenology (1828 and 1835); and Combe, Constitution of Man (1828, 1835, 1838, 1847, and 1851).
